Dajabón, Dominican Republic. – Haiti’s precarious conditions have spurred an increase in illegal immigration across to Dominican territory in the last few weeks, the Caribbean country’s humanitarian organizations denounced Sunday
Quoted by EFE, the Haiti based Human and Civilians Rights Protection Brigade and the National Food Security Coordinator told local media that the neighboring country is on the brink of extreme famine, which could increase Haitian immigration to different countries, especially Dominican Republic.
National Food Security Coordinator spokeswoman Gary Mathien said the Caribbean country is one step away from extreme famine as the result of the drought and subsequent rains. “This situation makes it difficult for the Haitians to find food, which will be scarce within a few months."
