Cholera Update from Haiti

This is Rosemene. She was a patient at the cholera house. She was there with two of her brothers. Three siblings that all had cholera at the same time. Her two brothers recovered in about 4 days. They were feeling better and ready to go home. Here is Rosemene’s mom and her brothers (pictured below). The kids dad is not around. Mom has been caring for her three kids 24/7. Sleeping with all three of them on the cot.

Rosemene has recovered from her diar and vomiting. But she is not well. She cannot stand or sit up by herself. Her mom is very, very worried about her.

We are worried about her too. She was admitted into the RC yesterday. She is eating some, and sleeping all the time. Will you remember her in your prayers today? She is a sweet little girl that is very sick right now.

The cholera numbers are not going down much. This week we averaged around 85 patients each night. Tonight we have 101 patients. We need each of you to join us in prayer. We have some decisions to make. We need wisdom to make them. We need peace to make them. We want to do what God wants us to do, His will. We are feeling more than overwhelmed right now. Overwhelmed feels like such an easy word today. We have a community of thousands upon thousands of people that are praying that we continue with each part of our ministry. We love our village so much. God has used the clinic, RC, community group and now the cholera house to show His love, grace and mercy to so many. Lives are being touched, hearts are changing, and souls are being reached. We must prayerfully consider this in decisions that we make. We ask that you join us in prayer. It is easy from far away to make quick assumptions or judgements about the situation. It is different when you live it. Believe me, very different. Please consider today to lift RHFH up in prayer.

Mission Statement

Haiti Work Teams is committed to improving the quality of life for the Haitian people by offering sound construction techniques and assitance in building projects. Projects considered would be schools, clincis, hospitals, solar storage, wells, water storage, septic systems, trash containment and waste removal. In the medical arena, Haiti Work Teams will assist existing medical missions and provide speciality teams in the fields of general medicine, OB-GYN, nutrition, dentistry, and vision care.

Our Beginning in 1980

Steve and Sheila Scheib first visited Haiti in 1980 as part of a construction and medical work team. After several more trips, we were asked to fill in for missionaries, Don and Doris Peavey, while they went on furlough. So, in March of 1988 we returned with our 3 children for a one year commitment at the Ebenezer Glenn Orphange in Marchand Dessalines. The time was a mixed blessing, in that physically the time was exhausting; not enough hours in the day to get everything done that needed to be done; but spiritually, our faith was stretched in ways that only other missionaries could relate to. Growth was obtained through the trials that God allowed to come our way. Our faith grew and our sense of security was in the Savour of the World who had called us to Haiti. When the Peaveys returned the following year, we returned to the states in April of 1989. We have continued over the years to return to Haiti as often as possible.
